Overview

When you make changes to your server configuration, you typically need to restart the server for those changes to take effect. This guide explains when and how to apply changes.

When to Restart

Restart your server after:

  • Changing startup variables
  • Modifying configuration files
  • Installing or removing mods
  • Changing the scenario/mission
  • Updating server name or password

Changes That Take Effect Immediately

Some changes apply without restart:

  • Console commands (while server is running)
  • Player kicks/bans via Player Manager
  • Some plugin configurations

How to Restart

  1. Go to your server dashboard
  2. Click the Restart button
  3. Wait for the server to stop and start again
  4. Check the console for successful startup

Restart vs Stop/Start

  • Restart - Faster, maintains some connections
  • Stop then Start - Full clean restart, clears all state

Verifying Changes

After restart, verify your changes took effect:

  • Check startup console for correct values
  • Connect to the server and test
  • Verify settings in-game

Troubleshooting

If changes do not appear:

  • Ensure you saved the changes before restarting
  • Check for typos in configuration values
  • Review console for error messages
  • Clear any cached configurations
